Why hasn't the City upgraded the Armadale/Eighth Road intersection?

The intersection at Armadale Road and Eighth Road lies within Main Roads WA's (MRWA) jurisdiction.

Throughout 2022-2023, the City has been in discussion with MRWA regarding the implementation of the intersection upgrade works at Armadale Road and Eighth Road. The works were initially slated for 2023-24. The intersection upgrade includes several safety upgrades, including the installation of traffic lights.

Prior to MRWA’s commencement of this upgrade, the relocation of several key services such as Telstra, NBN, ATCO, and Western Power need to take place, which are currently delayed. MRWA’s works have also been impacted by the imminent disruption to train services on the Armadale line, and the resulting bus replacement services. Works at the intersection would cause disruption to the replacement bus services and increase congestion. As a result, MRWA is now planning to execute the intersection upgrade works in 2025-26.
