What is an ‘Urban Forest’?

Urban Forest is defined as the sum total of all trees and significant understory situated within the urban landscape. Trees and vegetation found on public and private properties, along streets, verges and within parklands make-up the green fabric known as an urban forest.

What does the City currently do under the Urban Forest Strategy?

The Strategy is a strategic guiding document to influence and inform key strategic policies and guidelines.

The Strategy also has an implementation arm. Under the Strategy the City also undertakes an annual greening program to install trees across the City.  The program has three sub-programs including:

    • The Greening Program including the installation of new street and parkland tree planting, maintenance and watering
    • The Resident Request Planting Program; and
    • Ongoing Community Engagement and education
