FAQs
What are the objectives of the Suburban University Study Hubs Program?
The program aims to support underrepresented and educationally disadvantaged students from outer suburban areas with low tertiary education participation, who face increased barriers to accessing tertiary study.
Hubs will do this by supporting any student studying at any Australian publicly funded tertiary education provider; providing dedicated wrap-around support services and study facilities to improve access and outcomes for underrepresented students; building readiness and aspiration for tertiary level study; complementing, rather than duplicating or replacing existing and planned university investments and activities in metropolitan and peri-urban areas; and encouraging links between providers, employers and industry, and the local community to support improved outcomes for students, including Work Integrated Learning.
What is a Suburban University Study Hub?
Suburban University Study Hubs play a significant role in enhancing the academic experience for students by providing them with support and necessary resources, that may otherwise be geographically inaccessible, to succeed in their studies.
Will there definitely be a hub in Armadale?
The City is preparing a grant application for funding available to create opportunities for students in peri-rural areas. If our application is successful, we will be able to move on to the next stage of planning.
If our application is successful, our community will be able to take advantage of a dedicated study hub closer to home, and with Armadale's transport connections (particularly once METRONET's Byford Rail Extension project is complete), students from other localities will also be able to find support here.
Can a Study Hub really help me with my education?
A study hub is specifically designed to provide university and VET/TAFE students with a place to study and get assistance from support staff who know the ins-and-outs of higher education.
Having a local study hub with all the necessary facilities would mean students could also make significant savings with their own time and travel costs.
Suburban university study hubs will deliver a flexible, adaptive approach for students who typically face barriers in accessing learning opportunities, with an ultimate goal of supporting lifelong learning.
