Why is a car park being built?
The current parking facilities at Piara Waters Oval are inadequate to cater to the requirements of the pavilion, library, and reserve.
The proposed car park at the oval is designed to ease congestion during peak usage times by providing 45 dedicated parking bays, reducing the need for users and sporting groups to park in surrounding areas.
When will this be happening?
Construction of the car park is expected to commence in summer 2025/26.
How many parking bays will there be?
45 new off-street parking bays will be constructed.
How will this affect the traffic using this road?
The new parking facility will be built on the southern side of the oval along Broadway Boulevard. During the construction period there will be medium to minor impact to traffic along Broadway Boulevard.
The northern footpath (along the oval) will be closed, and pedestrian signage will be in place to divert pedestrians safely, whilst the southern footpath remains open.
It is expected that eastbound traffic along Broadway Boulevard from McPhail Street to Nicholson Road will need to be detoured when the works are carried out.
How long will the traffic diversion be in place?
No long term traffic diversions are expected but minor localised closures will be required during the construction phase.
How long will the construction take?
The construction period is expected to take between 8 to 10 weeks
What are the working hours for the construction?
7.00am to 5.00pm, Monday to Friday. No weekend work is scheduled at this time. Should weekend works be required, residents will be notified in advance.
Will there be noise and dust from the construction?
Some elements of construction noise and dust are to be expected due to the nature of these works. The contractor will endeavour to minimise the adverse impact of these works and will be monitored by the City’s officers.
Will access to my home be affected?
Access to properties will not be impacted during the construction works.
How will parking be affected during the construction?
The parking bays along Broadway Boulevard on the northern side adjacent to the project area will be inaccessible to the public during construction.
How will safety be ensured during construction?
The City will be employing a qualified construction contractor who will ensure all safety requirements, including the safety of road users and the public, are maintained. The City will be undertaking regular site checks to ensure safety compliance requirements are met at all times.
Will there be any disruption to utilities like water or electricity?
No utilities will be disrupted during construction.
Will there be landscaping or improvements around the new car park?
There is an allocation for vegetation to be planted in the car park itself and the City will undertake a replanting program after construction is complete.
How will it benefit me?
The additional parking bays will provide the library and oval users with additional parking to enable them to use these facilities more frequently.
It will alleviate congestion and on-street parking by the oval users during peak times.
