What is Homelessness Week?

In Australia, there are over 122,00 people experiencing homelessness on any given night (ABS Census 2021).

Homelessness Week aims to raise awareness of the causes and impacts of homelessness via national and local events and campaigns. This includes providing information on the importance of housing as a solution and educating communities on how they can make a difference. During the week, homelessness services and community groups educate the community and advocate for change via national and local community events, media and social media activities.

Homelessness Week 2024 will take place from Monday, August 5th to Sunday, August 11th; and the theme is “Homelessness Action Now”.

What is the City of Armadale doing to raise awareness?

In line with our Homelessness Policy, the City is running multiple activities to increase awareness and understanding of the difficulties faced by our homeless, to improve our service delivery and community engagement, and to share knowledge and enhance access to support services. The City is striving to create a compassionate and inclusive community that addresses homelessness and supports those in need, throughout this campaign period and beyond. During this initiative, the City is:

Providing information session for Neighbourhood Connections Network (NCN)

Hosting engagement forums for community members to enhance awareness

Hosting an internal fundraiser and donation drive in partnership with Foodbank, Armadale Health Services Emergency Department Social Work and Crossways Community Services.

Spreading awareness of the Homelessness Week and the City's initiatives via social media

Reviewing and updating documents, including our Hardship Resource Directory, which has information to support broader efforts in addressing homelessness

*Access to informative sessions for City Service Delivery staff can be provided upon request
