What is Homelessness Week?

In Australia, there are over 122,494 people experiencing homelessness on any given night.

Homelessness Week aims to raise awareness of the causes and impacts of homelessness via national and local events and campaigns. This includes providing information on the importance of housing as a solution and educating communities on how they can make a difference. During the week, homelessness services and community groups educate the community and advocate for change via national and local community events, media and social media activities.

Homelessness Week 2023 will take place from Monday, August 7 to Sunday, August 13; and the theme is “It’s time to end homelessness”.

What is the City of Armadale doing to raise awareness?

In line with our Homelessness Policy, the City is running multiple activities to increase awareness and understanding of the difficulties faced by our homeless, to improve our service delivery and community engagement, and to share knowledge and enhance access to support services. The City is striving to create a compassionate and inclusive community that addresses homelessness and supports those in need, throughout this campaign period and beyond. During this initiative, the City is:

Providing access to informative sessions for City Service Delivery staff

Hosting awareness forums for community members

Hosting an internal donation drive in partnership with South-East Metro Street Chaplains and Foodbank

Spreading awareness of the Homelessness Week and the City's initiatives via social media

Contributing to the Local Government Homelessness Knowledge Hub, sharing resources and information to support broader efforts in addressing homelessness and facilitating knowledge exchange among other local governments
