The City of Armadale’s Urban Forest Strategy invites residents to green our community through the Branch Out - Tree Giveaway initiative. Greening the City requires a collaborative effort between public and landowners, with community support being essential for its success. Living in green suburbs offers direct health benefits that are enjoyed by everyone in the community. We encourage local homeowners to plant trees in their backyards and private spaces to increase the city’s canopy cover.
Did you know that trees offer a variety of health benefits, including:
Improving physical health: Living in green urban areas can lower the risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure, while also reducing feelings of depression and anxiety.
Cooling neighborhoods and enhancing wellbeing: Trees provide shade and improve transpiration, cooling our suburbs and making neighborhoods more livable. This not only encourages outdoor activity but also boosts physical health, mental wellbeing, and creates a sense of belonging, strengthening community ties.
Supporting healthy development for children: Increased exposure to nature promotes creativity, learning, and healthy development in children. Unfortunately, children in newly developed areas are less likely to enjoy the benefits of playing beneath mature, shady trees.
Growing vegetation in our urban areas is crucial for the future of human health and is a collective responsibility. We must reduce artificial surfaces and support the planting and care of trees and understory vegetation whenever possible.
