The City of Armadale acquired the unique and precious Wirra Willa property in 2022 to safeguard and preserve this cultural and environmental heritage site for future generations. We are fortunate to have this beautiful heritage listed four-acre garden in our City, and work is currently underway to restore the gardens.
In 2021, the State Government concluded the Heritage registration for State landmarks. Inclusion in the register is reserved for buildings and sites of significant heritage value that have contributed to Western Australia's narrative, showcasing past design, building practices, social trends, and a way of life from bygone eras. Among the ten places included on the final list, Wirra Willa Gardens in Armadale stands as a testament to the State's rich built and social history, as well as its cultural identity. Further demonstrating why we are excited to develop a vision for reviving this important cultural and social natural space for the City of Armadale.
The purchase of this magnificent property was made possible through the prudent use of reserve funds, adding a wonderful asset to the incredible public open space in the City Centre and preserving the beautiful foothills landscape. Revitalising the Wirra Willa Gardens creates the opportunity to secure and protect its unique tree and plant species and our desire to preserve an important piece of Armadale's history
This property is an amazing and precious piece of Armadale’s heritage. We are committed to engaging with the community to ensure that the future use of the property is carefully considered and reflects the community's wishes. The future of the site will be carefully considered, with community engagement a key component, to ensure this iconic and precious garden is preserved for the future.
