Background
The City is currently reviewing the Public Toilet Strategy (the Strategy) and encourage you to participate so that our toilets can meet the ongoing and growing needs of our community.
The Public Toilet Strategy was first developed in 2013, with the goal of providing Council with a plan for upgrading, replacing, or possibly removing existing public toilets. The City has recently undertaken a review in order to incorporate "Changing Place" facilities into the Strategy. Furthermore, because the original Strategy was written in 2013, the current review is an opportunity update the document in general to current requirements.
A Changing Place is a safe clean toilet and change facility that provides extra spatial provisions for users with disability who require assisted care. Changing Places vary from Universal Accessible Toilets (UAT) which mainly cater for independent wheelchair access. Changing Places provides the extra space and facility provision for users with a disability who require assisted care.
Currently there are 21 public toilets owned/managed by the City, which vary greatly in age, style, and standards. The Strategy focuses on Council-owned and managed public toilets in public parks, near playgrounds, sports ovals, and public open spaces. This excludes those toilets within a leased area, in staffed Council buildings, community centres, local commercial centres, libraries and recreation centres. We are now seeking your input to help shape future public toilet priorities.
We are currently reviewing the Strategy and encourage you to participate so that our toilets can meet the ongoing and growing needs of our community.
