Share We've used the Derry Reserve playground numerous times for a two and five year old and are very excited about the planned upgrade. It's used so frequently by others in the area too and they have also talked about wanting extra pieces added. The concept plan for the Derry Reserve looks fabulous. Please definitely keep the swing set which the two year old loves using. The other climbing apparatus and slide looks perfect too. Thank you Armadale. We all look forward to its completion. on Facebook Share We've used the Derry Reserve playground numerous times for a two and five year old and are very excited about the planned upgrade. Share It’s a great improvement. 3 swings would be more conducive, a monkey bar could be included, should be fenced indicating designated area with gate (that doesn’t have to be locked} so when public using/walking through park Children in play feel safe and dogs don’t enter and will discourage older children with bikes to leave bikes outside of play area. on Facebook Share It’s a great improvement. 3 swings would be more conducive, a monkey bar could be included, should be fenced indicating designated area with gate (that doesn’t have to be locked} so when public using/walking through park Children in play feel safe and dogs don’t enter and will discourage older children with bikes to leave bikes outside of play area. on X (formerly Twitter) Share It’s a great improvement. 3 swings would be more conducive, a monkey bar could be included, should be fenced indicating designated area with gate (that doesn’t have to be locked} so when public using/walking through park Children in play feel safe and dogs don’t enter and will discourage older children with bikes to leave bikes outside of play area. on Linkedin Email It’s a great improvement. 3 swings would be more conducive, a monkey bar could be included, should be fenced indicating designated area with gate (that doesn’t have to be locked} so when public using/walking through park Children in play feel safe and dogs don’t enter and will discourage older children with bikes to leave bikes outside of play area. link

Troy Heard asked 11 days agoHi Troy,
The level of infrastructure provided at each park is guided by its classification, which considers factors such as the park’s size, function, age, and existing amenities.
The City allocates funding for infrastructure improvements through its Long-Term Financial Plan. Projects are identified and prioritised in alignment with several strategic documents, including the Parks Facilities Strategy, Urban Forest Strategy, Dry Park Strategy, and the Asset Renewal Program.
Based on the current level of amenity provided and the park's classification, there are no upgrades planned, currently, for Carrigg Park . However, your request has been noted for future consideration.

Share Extremely grateful that Derry reserve is being replaced as we are a local family that regularly used the old one. I do share the same views as previous comments/questions. I frequently travel to parks in Gosnells and Hilbert as the few parks in Mount Nasura within walking distance are extremely basic or not age appropriate. I too would appreciate greater funding dedicated to this area and a more extensive/ larger playground design with spaces/ equipment to service a larger age range . A more natural integration would also be welcomed- Churchman’s Brook playground is a wonderful example. Big thanks to all involved for the work that goes into renewing these areas. Share Perhaps, rather than doing updates to 6 small playgrounds, the COA could instead funnel that money into creating 1 really big, epic playground (in a fairly central location) for everyone to enjoy. Champion Lakes Nature Space is currently a very basic, boring playground but has a beautiful location. Upgrading this playground and foreshore area (and hopefully the developer will one day build some dining options adjacent to the foreshore) would turn this place into somewhere that families could come and enjoy a lovely day out. At the foreshore, I would love to see more trees, better lawn, bbqs and picnic tables. And the adjacent playground could be expanded into the seldom used amphitheater. And equipment such as a flying fox, trampolines and nature play would be a great addition to the playground. And like other people have suggested, fencing and shade are also important at the playground too. Neighboring councils have some really epic playgrounds, and I know many people from within COA that are travelling to these neighboring suburbs so their kids can play at nicer playgrounds. It would be so nice if we had one within COA. on Facebook Share Perhaps, rather than doing updates to 6 small playgrounds, the COA could instead funnel that money into creating 1 really big, epic playground (in a fairly central location) for everyone to enjoy. Kat asked 9 days agoHI Kat,
Only a small section of the Champion Lakes Recreational Area - Joe Saunders Park and Henley Park (about 1.4 hectares total), as well as an additional area at the Interpretive Centre and a small beach position, are under city management.
The surrounding areas of Champion Lakes recreational area is owned and managed by Venues west including the entire perimeter pathways and infrastructure. As this land is not owned nor managed by the City, limits the City's capacity to influence or implement requests for improvements.

Share One of the biggest things I’d love to see included is shade sails over the playgrounds. During our WA summers, many parks become too hot to use, so having more shade would make a huge difference for families. I’d also love to see more fenced parks, particularly those that have play equipment suited to younger children. Personally, I’d love to see fences at 9 out of 10 parks because they make such a difference for families, but I also understand budgets only go so far. As a mum of a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who elopes (runs away), fenced parks provide a much safer environment and give parents a chance to relax a little while still keeping their child safe. At the moment, many of us have to travel around 25 minutes to the Gosnells All Abilities Playground to access a fenced playground (that’s smaller). Having more smaller fenced parks closer to home would make a huge difference for so many local families. If there is room within the park designs, it would also be great to include a seesaw in some of the parks. For parks that are getting a basket (circle) swing, it would also be great if a standard swing set could be included as well, so there are options for children with different ages, abilities and preferences. Thank you for asking the community for feedback. It’s great to have the opportunity to help shape parks that are safe, inclusive and enjoyable for everyone. on Facebook Share One of the biggest things I’d love to see included is shade sails over the playgrounds. Share Hi. While I’m glad you are finally upgrading the park at Derry Reserve it doesn’t look like a good enough effort. I emailed the council earlier this year and they said they were looking into ways to irrigate the park and also looking at picnic areas etc. we don’t have anything decent in Mount Nasura for our kids so we have to take them all the way to places like ship wreck park. This proposal is just another half effort that needs to be expanded. We pay a lot of rates and taxes up here in Mount Nasura but have no community areas at all. on Facebook Share Hi. Share Derry Reserve is my local park ! I am excited that it is getting a revamp as we looking at starting our family soon! The concept design is very basic, and would only entertain probably entertain young children 2-7 years old at most ( i have an educational background/expereince) Can we have something for the older kids too ? One of those spider climbing things? The round swing ? Spinny chair thing ? So we can stay on the mount and just walk to the local park for all of their childhood. We plan on living in the area for the rest of our lives so would be nice to have something that will be timeless and cater to a larger age group of children ! The other idea is a nature parks concept would go nicely on the mount and suit the lifestyle people are trying to create up here, nature play/out doors/enviro friendly. on Facebook Share Derry Reserve is my local park ! Share Derry Park is was burned down in January 2026 and while it's considered a neighbourhood park by your own city guidelines, the pictures don't show any extra amenities that one of those would have such as a large playground with picnic facilities, grassed and reticulated areas, shade sails or a toilet. Our park hasn't been upgraded in such a long time but doesn't meet those minimum requirements. There are no local parks to us with toilet facilities with the exception of Lions Park and that's not convenient to most people actually in the hills. We don't want an interim upgrade, but the one we've been asking for, for years. on Facebook Share Derry Park is was burned down in January 2026 and while it's considered a neighbourhood park by your own city guidelines, the pictures don't show any extra amenities that one of those would have such as a large playground with picnic facilities, grassed and reticulated areas, shade sails or a toilet.
