Why is the City of Armadale getting involved in this?

As an Act Belong Commit partner, the City is committed to encouraging and promoting good mental health and wellbeing throughout the community. Launching the Acts of Kindness Project is just one of the ways we are spreading the Act Belong Commit campaign message about different ways to build connections in our community and create environments that support mental health.

As well as making people feel good, kindness has been proven to be good for your physical and mental health, as well as the greater community! In fact, it can ease your stress levels, help you to live longer, improve your relationships AND build positive and engaged communities.

What are the benefits of being involved?

    There are so many!

    • Celebrating and promoting kindness creates a positive environment, and makes you, your staff, and your customers feel good
    • Be associated with Act Belong Commit, a comprehensive, population wide, community-based, evidence based, preventative mental health promotion campaign created by Mentally Healthy WA.
    • Good PR for your business, demonstrating your business is interested in promoting good mental health in the community.
    • Additional promotion of your business through City of Armadale channels (in relation to the campaign).
    • Encouraging extra customer visits to your business by being involved in a wider promotional campaign.
    • Kindness costs nothing and neither does being involved in this great initiative.

Sign me up! What happens next?

Businesses and Organisations who register their interest, will receive:

    • 100* x Acts of Kindness cards to hand out on World Kindness Day and throughout November 2024.
    • Social media tiles promoting your businesses’ involvement in the project to encourage extra visits to your business
    • Project information flyer to assist with any questions you may receive from your staff or customers
    • Bunting for businesses to display (optional)

*Private/home based businesses who register to participate will receive a reduced amount of 25 cards.

What are the expectations of involvement?

Businesses who register their interest are expected to:

    • Distribute the Acts of Kindness cards throughout November 2024.
    • Promote the project launch via your business socials, using the hashtag #communitykindness, and tagging @actbelongcommit and @cityofarmadale
    • Complete a short evaluation survey post-project. This will help us assess whether this project was useful, effective and whether we make this program an annual celebration. This is also an opportunity to provide any feedback on things that did or didn’t work so we can make improvements to future projects.

What is the difference between a public and private/home based business?

Public businesses are open to the public to purchase goods or services (e.g retail shops and hospitality). Private or home based businesses allow the public to purchase goods or services by appointment only or through orders/delivery etc.

I run a private/home based business. Can I still participate?

Yes. As a private or home based business, you can still participate. However, you will receive  25 x Acts of Kindness cards, rather than the 100 cards for public businesses.

I have further questions. Who can I contact?

Please get in touch with the City's Health Services team at health@armadale.wa.gov.au or on 08 9394 5776.
