FAQs
When is Diwali and what does the festival celebrate?
Diwali, also known as the "festival of lights," is celebrated worldwide during the Hindu lunar months of Ashvin and Kartika, usually falling in October or November. This year, the main celebrations begin on 29 October and continue for five days. The word Diwali (or Deepavali) means "a row of lights," and the festival is marked by decorating homes and public spaces with lights, fireworks, cultural activities, and the sharing of food and gifts.
For Hindus, Jains, and Sikhs, it represents the spiritual triumph of good over evil, light over darkness, and knowledge over ignorance.
