Local government plays a supporting role in crime prevention by helping to create safer communities through education, awareness campaigns, community development initiatives, environmental design, and partnerships with organisations such as the Western Australia Police Force (WAPOL). While local government is not responsible for law enforcement, it can help residents access information, services and programs that contribute to community safety.

Residents can help prevent crime by securing their homes and vehicles, reporting suspicious behaviour, staying informed about local crime prevention advice, participating in community safety initiatives, and building positive relationships with neighbours. Small actions taken by individuals can collectively make a significant contribution to community safety. 

The City supports vulnerable groups by promoting access to relevant services, sharing safety information, supporting community programs, and working with government agencies and community organisations to address local needs. This may include initiatives focused on seniors, young people, people with disability, culturally diverse communities, and others who may be at greater risk of experiencing crime or feeling unsafe.

If a crime is occurring now or there is an immediate threat to life or property, call Triple Zero (000). For non-urgent police assistance, suspicious behaviour, or to report a crime that has already occurred, contact Police Assistance on 131 444 or through the appropriate WAPOL reporting channels.

Yes. The City regularly work with WAPOL and other government agencies to support community safety initiatives, share crime prevention information, identify emerging local issues, and help connect residents with relevant services and resources. WAPOL remains responsible for policing, law enforcement and criminal investigations, while local government supports these efforts through community education and engagement.
